Teeth RETAINERS Dubai

AFFORDABLE Teeth retainers
IN
Dubai

To ensure you obtain lasting results from your orthodontic treatment, a permanent or non-permanent dental retainer can be used as the last stage of your treatment. Most commonly, as the final step after wearing Invisalign trays or braces.

A retainer maintains teeth straightening and bite correction achieved in the last stages of an orthodontic treatment. It can also minimize the natural shifting of teeth, which can occur after braces are removed. Wearing them after braces can help remind your teeth to stay in their new positions and maintain a beautifully straight smile.

The removable retainer is the most prescribed, resembling a clear plastic mouth guard. They can be easily removed and put back on again in the same fashion making eating and cleaning easier. In some cases, you may be given a removable plate with a wire. This wire is fixed to an acrylic plate that sits comfortably at the roof of the mouth and can be taken on and off similarly to a clear moulded retainer.

The other type of teeth retainer is a bonded or fixed retainer. This treatment is adhered to the back of your teeth with a strong dental filling material. These are used in cases where the teeth are likely to crowd or shift back into their original place. In this case, a thin wire is cemented to the back of the teeth to hold them into their new position long-term, often permanently.  The fixed retainer is usually fixed behind your front teeth from canine to canine, so we will also provide a removable night time retainer to cover all of your teeth which is  worn on top of the fixed retainer  for added protection.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH A TEETH RETAINER

If your orthodontist recommends a removable clear retainer, you are required to have an impression of your teeth taken and a 3d mould is created at the lab. Doing so will help your orthodontist develop a custom retainer that fits your new teeth like a glove. A retainer will then be fitted over your teeth. It is common to experience some pressure immediately after you wear a retainer as your mouth adjusts. Pressure subsides once your teeth grow used to the plate. If your retainer rubs or cuts into your gums, inform your orthodontist as it may require further adjustment.

Bonded retainers

A fixed retainer involves a thin wire being bonded to the back of your teeth using dental cement that’s hardened and cured under special lighting. This process takes a few minutes. Your orthodontist and team will teach you the necessary steps to correctly clean them.

Providing retainers in Dubai

Retainers are used after you have had your teeth straightened to ensure that they remain in their new straight position. It essential that retainers are worn as recommended by your Easy Dental Clinic in Dubai, in order to ensure you continue to enjoy your new, straighter smile. There are 2 main types of retainer available: Bonded retainers & Removable retainers

Do you have to wear a retainer forever?

This will depend on how long you want to keep your teeth straight for. If it is forever then wearing retainers will need to be forever too! For the first couple of weeks, you often have to wear a removable retainer 24/7 (but it can be taken out for eating and brushing teeth). For patients prescribed a removable retainer, you can expect to wear it every night for 6-12 months but it can be shorter or longer depending on your specific treatment plan. After that, you will only have to wear them a few nights a week.

If you are prescribed a fixed/bonded retainer, you can expect to wear it for life. However, the bond used for fixed retainers is very strong and most patients will find their wire remaining in place for years, even decades, after their treatment. Fixed retainers are a permanent solution. While the thought of this might frighten you, rest assured that aside from keeping your teeth fixed straight, they are unnoticeable. Most patients forget they are there and are not affected or compromised by their presence.

What to do if your retainer breaks or is lost?

As retainers are required for life please contact our surgery to plan an appointment to have your retainer repaired or remade, even if it has been some time since we last saw you for a regular retention check up.

What is a retainer?

Retainers are fitted at the end of orthodontic treatment after the braces are removed. Retainers are designed to minimise unwanted movement of teeth after orthodontic alignment ie. relapse. Retainers normally need to be worn indefinitely, as long as you want your teeth to remain straight. Retainers can be either removable or fixed onto the teeth and there are different types of retainers. The choice of retainer is affected by a number of different factors and your orthodontist will explain which retainer is best for you. Sometimes you will be recommended to wear more than one type of retainer to reduce the chances of relapse.

If your orthodontist recommends a removable retainer, you will first have a mould taken of your teeth. This will create a comfortable, custom retainer that will fit your new teeth like a glove. The retainer will then be fitted over your teeth. Immediately after you wear your new retainer, you may experience some pressure as your mouth adjusts. This is normal and will subside once you grow used to it. If your retainer begins to cut or rub on your gums, inform your orthodontist as it may require further adjustment.

If you are prescribed a plate retainer with a wire, then you will be given a demonstration on how to fit it and remove it as well as how to properly clean it. You may also experience some discomfort from these retainers for the first few days as you get used to them.

With a fixed retainer, a wire will be bonded to the back of your teeth using dental cement which is hardened under a special curing light. This will only take a few minutes and is painless. Fixed retainers will also need to be looked after, so usually your orthodontist or oral health therapist will show you how to keep them clean.

What is the purpose of retainers?

Retainers help hold the teeth in the final position after braces are taken off. With a retainer, you are helping your teeth to stay straight by preventing the movement that naturally occurs after braces or Invisalign. Teeth regularly need to be reminded of their new position, so using a retainer after teeth straightening is a way of holding the teeth in their new position. Retainers are crucial to your orthodontic success, and can also help you to form a new dental hygiene routine following braces.

Which is better - braces or retainer?

Braces and retainers both have their importance in an orthodontic treatment plan. Where braces are used to align and straighten the teeth over the course of a few months to a few years, retainers are used as a type of post-braces aftercare to help the teeth maintain their alignment.

If you are unsure whether a retainer is right for you, contact us today or visit one of our Smile Team locations in Al Karama, Al Rigga and Al Satwa.

WEAR AND CARE OF TIPS FOR YOUR RETAINERS

Place your retainers  in their case so they do not get damaged or lost.
Just as you would clean your teeth, you need to clean your retainers. Removable teeth retainers are cleaned by gently brushing them with a toothbrush and toothpaste using lukewarm water.
You will need to wear your retainers as prescribed by your orthodontist. While the fixed retainers are bonded to your teeth, you  will need to wear the removable retainers at night during sleep to maintain the correct position of your teeth.
Take good care of your retainers as they can get broken.
Do not wear them while eating.
